Brainstorming Ideas
Pitch
DVD
Teaser
After a few trials, I have come up with a few ideas I'd like to take forward. For the Teaser poster I would like it to be simple and obvious. Perhaps taking inspiration from the enemy poster with Jake Gyllenhaal where there is a reflected medium shot, and I could change it in a way as to have a home wife smiling and then reflected having her looking more sinister. For the DVD cover I would like to feature more of the environment so that the yellow will pop more and draw more attention to the subject of the shot. And for the theatrical release poster I hope to stagger characters perhaps in a montage way.
Synopsis
As a teenager, [Protagonist] has a tough time adjusting to her new home in [place name] when she discovers the previous tenant disappeared mysteriously. No one in town seems to have any idea what happened. Then one weekend she unearths a box from her closet filled with polaroids, film cassettes and diary entries documenting the lives of her neighbours. Alone, she discovers evidence to suggest the previous home owner had more than a sudden disappearance. Unable to share her findings with the police or her parents, she takes it upon herself to seek the truth and solve the dark mysteries of her new town. When the neighbourhood discovers her plans, they do everything in their powers to stop her. What deep secrets will she unearth and how well will she fair against such a tight-knit community by herself?
Second Lockdown Considerations
With the second Lockdown it is important for me to consider how I will be going about my interview for the film. I am considering doing it as if it were a zoom call or perhaps a podcast or radio interview between myself and a cast member, or being questioned myself on the construction of the film.
I had taken some photos in December, and later when I tried to retrieve them had been corrupted and are now lost. So I'll need to consider again what photos I will be needing. So after my 'practice', I believe that having incredibly centred shots around the subject with a real balance over the rule of thirds. By having this really singled-out perspective, I feel that the effect will reflect an intensity. I had been inspired by some Tarantino compositions over quarantine, and I love his use of environment and focus. (To the right) you can see his strong use of the rule of thirds.
Here, from the Hateful Eight, you can see how he uses layers in his composition, starting at the foreground and gaining more information as you move backwards. When I watched the Hateful Eight I really fell in love with his artistic style and story telling. So it would be great to draw some inspiration from him.
For my photos I expect to need some silhouette shots, the character going through the evidence box, a few 'film' shots, like thumbnails of action, and some creepy over-the-fence shots.
